Full Description
On this tour, you’ll experience the contrast between the vibrant modern city of Limassol and the traditional Cypriot village. Two completely different lifestyles, two different, but such beautiful moods. You will see how diverse the same island can be! You will visit the archaeological park of Kourion, which is one of the most important archaeological sites of ancient Cyprus and one of the most visited historical sites on the island. The ancient city of Kourion attracts visitors with its amazing and interesting history that dates back to the 12th century B.C. It’s well-preserved remains of ancient buildings and temples, mosaics, columns, arches and other architectural structures. Curion was once one of the richest and most powerful city-states of ancient Cyprus. The city of Kourion was first discovered during excavations in 1873. Thanks to its rich and long history, Limassol is home to many historic sites. A walk through the picturesque ancient part is an unforgettable experience for all visitors to the island. It is fascinating to see what the city was like in ancient times. You can also see the old port and the newly built modern marina – Limassol Marina. You can stroll through the narrow streets lined with historical buildings, cafes and restaurants, and small shops. The centre of the historical part of Limassol is the Limassol Castle-medieval fort, built on the site of an early Christian basilica (4-7 century A.D.) and a Byzantine fortress, built in the 10-11 centuries A.D. Now, do you want to know the secret of Lefkara village? Firstly, it is very beautiful! The village and its surroundings lie at the foot of a mountain system and there are plenty of hills with panoramic views. Secondly, Lefkara is a veritable living in Cyprus. It does not imitate antiquity to please the tourists – it exists here in its natural form: in the form of old buildings that have become homes, shops, churches, and workshops. It is essentially a labyrinth of narrow streets, unchanged for centuries, and houses with architecture from different eras. It is evident that the residents love and care for their village. The village has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Well, thirdly, Lefkara village is a place of authentic handicrafts. It is known for its handmade lace and silverware.
